Urals Energy Public Company Limited, a Cyprus-based holding company admitted to trading on the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM), is an independent oil company with its operating assets located in Russia. Urals Energy’s main exploration and production operations are in Timan Pechora and on Sakhalin Island. An oil and gas exploration and production company, Urals Energy manages core assets that comprise two onshore properties located in East Siberia, a notoriously frigid region located east of the Urals Mountains. UTS Energy Corporation acquired oil sands explorer True North Energy in 2004, giving UTS Energy 100% ownership of the Fort Hills Oil Sands Project. UTS Energy Corporation subsequently formed subsidiary Fort Hills Energy to develop the asset. Petro-Canada, one of Canada's largest oil producers, owns a 60% stake in the Fort Hills Oil Sands Project and is a development partner; Teck holds 20%. In 2009 French oil titan TOTAL tried to buy UTS Energy for $617 million, but was rebuffed by UTS Energy's board.

Vanguard Natural Resources, LLC, through its subsidiaries, engages in the acquisition, development, and exploitation of natural gas and oil properties. Vanguard Natural Resources properties are located in the southern portion of the Appalachian Basin, primarily in southeast Kentucky and northeast Tennessee; and the Permian Basin, primarily in west Texas and southeastern New Mexico, and in south Texas. As of December 31, 2008, Vanguard Natural Resources owned working interests in 958 net productive wells, and had estimated proved reserves of 108.5 billion cubic feet equivalents of natural gas and crude oil. Vanguard Natural Resources also has a 40% working interest in approximately 109,500 gross undeveloped acres surrounding or adjacent to its wells located in southeast Kentucky and northeast Tennessee. Vanguard Natural Resources was founded in 2006 and is based in Houston, Texas.

Venoco, Inc. was founded in 1992 and is based in Denver, Colorado. Venoco, Inc., an independent energy company, engages in the acquisition, exploration, exploitation, and development of oil and natural gas properties. Venoco, Inc. principal properties are located both onshore and offshore Southern California, onshore in California's Sacramento Basin, and onshore along the Gulf Coast of Texas. Venoco, Inc. owns interests in 627 net producing wells in Southern and Northern California and in Texas. In 2007 Venoco had estimated proved reserves of 99.9 million barrels of oil equivalent (of which 64% were oil and 61% were proved developed). Chairman and CEO Tim Marquez controls Venoco. As of December 31, 2009, Venoco, Inc. had net proved reserves of 98,313 MBOE.

Vero Energy Inc. is a Calgary based, growth oriented company engaged in the exploration, development and production of natural gas, natural gas liquids and oil in Western Canada.
