Excelsior Energy hopes to excel in producing oil from the vast bitumen sand deposits of Western Canada. Excelsior Energy Limited has a working interest in two prospective oil sands leases: Hangingstone and West Surmont, in the Athabasca oil sands of Alberta. Excelsior Energy's business model is to produce oil in-place using on-site thermal units, rather than the traditional model of transporting oil sands to a central processing plant. By 2009 Excelsior Energy Limited had done significant exploration drilling and found that Hangingstone could recover bitumen on an experimental basis, producing a maximum of 1,000 barrels of bitumen per day. Excelsior Energy plans to begin commercial production in the Hangingstone Project in 2011.

Fairborne Energy (formerly Fairborne Energy Trust) holds oil and gas investments in Western Canada. Fairborne Energy Ltd. has oil assets in central Alberta and gas properties in west-central Alberta. In 2005 Fairborne Energy Ltd. was converted to Fairborne Energy Trust and a junior exploration company, Fairquest Limited. Fairborne Energy Ltd. owns more than 229,930 net acres of undeveloped land and has proved and probable reserves of 50.7 million barrels of oil equivalent. In 2004 Fairborne Energy acquired land assets from BP Canada and exploration and production company Case Resources. In 2007 the trust acquired total control of Fairquest and became Fairborne Energy.

FairWest Energy Corporation was exploring for precious metals at the Fenelon Property (38%-owned) located in northwestern Quebec, but the company disposed of those operations in 2005. Falcon Oil & Gas has spread its wings and focused its energy on searching for oil and gas. Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. operates in Romania (through JVX Exploration) where Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. has the right to explore and drill wells on property that covers 575,260 acres and is adjacent to Hungary's two largest oil fields. Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. licenses are in south-central Hungary near the town of Szolnok. Falcon operates in Hungary (through TXM Oil and Gas Exploration) where it is focusing on an underground geologic formation called the Mako Trough. Falcon Oil & Gas also holds interests in four non-producing properties in Alberta, Canada.

Faroe Petroleum plans to parlay its access to the reserve-rich Atlantic margin region around the Faroe Islands into major revenue growth. Faroe Petroleum plc has exploration licenses in the Faroes, in the UK west of the Shetland Islands, and in the UK sector of the North Sea. Faroe Petroleum plc oil and gas assets include interests in the Clair, Foinaven, and Schiehallion fields, which collectively hold estimated reserves of 1.6 billion barrels of oil.
