BMW Motorrad starts operations in India

New Delhi: BMW Motorrad, the two-wheeler arm of German carmaker Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW), has officially started operations in India. It was earlier operating in India with importers that had stores in Mumbai and New Delhi.

“We see a tremendous potential in this country and we are pleased to introduce BMW Motorrad as a part of the Indian subsidiary of BMW Group,” Dimitris Raptis, head of region (Asia, China, Pacific, South Africa) for BMW Motorrad said in a statement.

BMW Motorrad is currently in the process of setting up the team and dealership network in India. Shivapada Ray has been appointed as head of the India operations. In the initial phase, BMW Motorrad will set up dealerships in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune.

“BMW Motorrad is an inherent and highly emotional part of the BMW brand. Our products stand for passion, innovation and safety on two wheels. We want our existing and prospective customers to forge new paths and make BMW Motorrad a part of their aspirational lifestyle and pursue joy through riding,” said Vikram Pawah, president of BMW Group India.

BMW Motorrad sells a range of premium bikes across categories, including sports, tour, roadster, heritage and adventure. It will sell models such as BMW S 1000 RR, R 1200 RS, R 1200 RT, K 1600 GTL, R 1200 R, S 1000 R, R NineT, BMW R NineT Scrambler, R 1200 GS Adventure, R 1200 GS and S 1000 XR.

BMW Motorrad has also tied up with India’s TVS Motor Co. Ltd to make and sell BMW G310 R and BMW G310 GS in India and globally.

All the models will be available as completely built-up units (CBU).
