Mercury in Delhi crosses 45 degrees Celsius-mark, records highest temperature of season

Delhi on Friday recorded its highest temperature of the season as the mercury crossed 45 degrees Celsius-mark in Palam area, the India Meteorological Department said.

A heatwave swept parts of north India, including the national capital on Friday.

While the maximum temperature of 45.4℃ was recorded at Palam, the Safdarjung Observatory recorded a high of 43.8 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature at Safdarjung, which provides representative figures for the city, was four notches above the normal while Palam temperature was 5 degrees above the normal.

The weather stations at Lodhi Road and Ayanagar recorded their respective maximum temperatures at 44.4 degrees Celsius and 44.7 degrees Celsius, five degrees and four degrees above normal, respectively.

The Met Department said a heatwave is likely to continue over Delhi-NCR on weekend due to hot and dry northwesterly winds prevailing over northwest India.
