L&T arm lands 2,864 cr. deal for Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor

An arm of Larsen and Toubro Ltd. has landed a contract worth 2,864 crore from Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd. (DFCCIL).
L&T Construction’s Transportation Infrastructure Business has been awarded the contract for Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor.
The EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) order involves construction of 222 route Km of a single-track corridor from Khurja to Pilkhani in Uttar Pradesh, a company release said.
This is Larsen & Toubro’s first EPC civil, structure & track project in the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor.
In the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, L&T already has a share of 71% in the civil packages and 100% share in the electrical packages.
DFCCIL is a special purpose vehicle of the Indian Railways, mandated to build dedicated freight corridors.
This project will be funded by World Bank (WB), and is a part of the 1856 km Eastern Corridor proposed between Ludhiana (Punjab) and Dankuni (West Bengal).
The scope of work includes construction of single railway track including yards, 75 major and 588 minor bridges, 1 rail over-bridge modification, 4 rail flyovers, 21 stations along with construction of all associated works.- The project is planned to be executed using completely mechanized means of track-linking, using the latest technology in railway construction.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) on Thursday reported a net loss of Rs 7,674.6 crore, widening by 19.5 per cent in the fourth quarter (January-March) of FY24 from Rs 6,418.9 crore in the corresponding quarter of FY23 due to higher expenses and stalling revenues.

AstraZeneca's Covid-19 prevention therapy reduced the risk of infection in patients with weaker immunity in a late-stage trial, meeting its primary goal, the drugmaker said on Thursday.
The long-acting antibody therapy called sipavibart showed a "statistically significant reduction" in symptomatic Covid-19 cases among immunocompromised patients, the company said.
