US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (IST) said he is likely to announce tariffs on pharmaceuticals by the end of this month, which could go as high as 200 per cent. The new tariffs would be part of a broader “reciprocal” trade framework scheduled for implementation on August 1, Bloomberg reported.
Speaking to reporters after returning from Pittsburgh, Trump said, “Probably at the end of the month, and we’re going to start off with a low tariff and give the pharmaceutical companies a year or so to build, and then we’re going to make it a very high tariff.”

Nearly two months after acquiring a significant stake in private lender YES Bank, Japanese financial major Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG) is considering an additional investment of around $1.1 billion, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the deal would involve SMFG acquiring 5 per cent stake from the United States (US)-based investment fund Carlyle Group and other minority shareholders. Additionally, the Japanese major may also buy about $680 million in convertible bonds issued by YES Bank to help boost growth, the report added.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released updated guidelines to strengthen global HIV prevention efforts, recommending the use of lenacapavir — a newly approved, long-acting antiretroviral — for high-risk groups and in regions with high infection rates.
The recommendation was announced on 14 July at the 13th International AIDS Society Conference (IAS 2025) held in Kigali, Rwanda.

US President Donald Trump on Monday (IST) threatened to impose a 100 per cent tariff on Russia if Moscow's hostilities in Kyiv don't come to an end and a deal is not reached in 50 days.
Trump made these remarks during a meeting with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House, Bloomberg reported. He added, "We’re going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don’t have a deal in 50 days, tariffs at about 100%".

In a significant step towards global healthcare innovation, the World Health Organization (WHO) has released a technical brief titled "Mapping the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Traditional Medicine", acknowledging India's pioneering efforts in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) with traditional medicine systems, particularly Ayush systems.
The WHO release follows India's proposal on the subject, leading to the development of WHO's first-ever roadmap for applying AI in traditional medicine, the Ayush Ministry said in a release.
