Coal India (CIL), the government-owned near-monopolist in the sector, is to build 15 washeries across its various subsidiaries, through private companies under a build and operate model.

CIL currently owns 17 washeries, five for coking coal (used by the steel and cement industries) and 12 for non-coking (for producing electricity). Of the new ones, six are to handle coking coal and the other nine the other. The cumulative washing capacity is estimated at 112 million tonnes (mt), said senior CIL officials.

While deregulation of fuel prices had led to a gradual re-opening of retail outlets by dealers of Reliance Industries (RIL), a closure of several of these could again be in the offing.

In the past six-odd months, almost 1,000 RIL dealerships had reopened retail outlets (ROs); there had been 1,400 filling stations at one time and all had to close. However, uncompetitive commissions by RIL on petrol and diesel sales has meant dealers making losses, of Rs 25,000-30,000 a month, they allege. They're asking for a rise in the commission to match those given by government-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs).

No Indian is among the victims of the horrific terror attacks in France, in which at least 140 people were killed and hundreds others injured, as per initial reports, Indian Deputy Chief of Mission here said.

US auto major Ford is recalling 16,444 units of its popular compact SUV EcoSport manufactured between November 2013 and April 2014 in India to rectify faulty rear twist beam bolt, which is a part of suspension.

“In some of the affected vehicles, there is a possibility that the Rear Twist Beam (RTB) bolt may not be tightened to specification, which may cause the pivot bolt to break,” Ford India said in a statement.

Private sector lender YES Bank has signed a memorandum of understand with the London Stock Exchange (LSE) for bonds and equity issuance. The focus of these issuances will be on green infrastructure bonds.

As part of this agreement, the lender plans to list a green bond of up to $500 million on the LSE by December 2016. Apart from this, it plans to raise capital overseas by listing global depository receipts. This is a part of the bank’s overall plan to raise $1 billion of equity capital.

Niko Resources of Canada has decided to quit Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL)'s gas discovery block NEC-25, off the Odisha coast.

The company, in a statement, said,"the second quarter of financial year 2016, the company elected to withdraw from the NEC-25 block and relinquish its interest to the remaining interest holders." RIL is the operator of the block, with 60 per cent interest, while BP plc of UK has the remaining 30 per cent stake.
