In the wake of shortage of fuel in thermal power plants due to inadequate transportation facilities, Coal India (CIL) has been asked to expedite the signing of private siding agreement with Railways. The process, which started in 2014, has been shuttling between the two ministries since then.

A railway siding is an area which is used for loading and unloading of coal in train rakes.

Indian Air Force tests mid-air fuel refilling on Tejas fighter jet for the first time

A dry run of mid-air refuelling of Tejas fighter jet by an Indian Air Force aircraft was successfully conducted, a defence source said Tuesday.

The test conducted involved a dry linkup, meaning no fuel was actually transferred between Indian Air Force Il-78 tanker and Tejas fighter jet through its air-to-air refuelling probe, the source told PTI here.

Two-and-a-half years after an under-construction flyover in north Kolkata came down and killed 26, a portion of a 40-year-old bridge in southwest Kolkata collapsed during the afternoon rush hour on Tuesday.

At least, 19 people were injured and five feared dead. At the time of the incident, at least five cars, a minibus and three two-wheelers were on the bridge, said witnesses.

As many as 15 people, who were borrowers in the Rs 600 million SBI loan scam in Virudhanagar and Theni districts of Tamil Nadu, have died under suspicious circumstances in the last six months, The Times of India reports. Another borrower has gone missing.

According to the ToI report, police has confirmed that all those found dead were from Virudhnagar and nearby villages and had loans in their name, however, there has not been a probe into these deaths.
