Air India is incurring a loss of around Rs 3 crore daily on its Europe, US flights due to the closure of Pakistan airspace, a senior airline official said on Thursday. Last Wednesday, Pakistan closed its airspace to all overflying flights forcing airlines from India and other nations to take a detour. This has led to increase in flight duration and has put a strain on Mumbai’s air traffic controllers, who are working extra shifts to handle the increase in traffic.

National carrier Air India will be flying 12 international flights as well as 40-plus domestic flights with an all-women crew on Friday, Women's Day.

Air India will be deploying its B787 Dreamliners and B777s aircraft to operate to 12 international medium and long-haul flights solely operated exclusively by women pilots and attended by women cabin crew.

In response to a specific query from PTI about the employee’s health, Air India’s spokesperson said, “Employee is stable and improving in hospital.”

The maiden Air India Express flight IX 172 from Sharjah touched down atthe Surat airport at 11.30 pm on Saturday with 75 passengers on board the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the airline said in a statement.

Ashwani Lohani to be Air India's new Chief Managing Director

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the appointment of Ashwani Lohani as the new Chief Managing Director of Air India. Lohani was retired from his previous role as Railway Board Chairman on January 1.

The government may refinance three-fourth of Air India’s Rs 29,000 crore debt, which has been transferred to a special purpose vehicle, through non-convertible debentures (NCDs) or fresh loans.

Air India has written to the ministry of civil aviation to refinance or restructure the debt as it will help reduce the interest burden.

Air India Pilot unions wrote to the company on Sunday saying they are yet to receive December’s flying allowance, which consists of around 70 per cent of total salary, and the pilots are working under “stressful conditions” that has “direct implications on flight safety”. Flying allowance is paid to a pilot on the basis of the number of flight hours he or she has clocked in a month.

Two days after one of its passengers found a cockroach in the food served aboard a Bhopal-Mumbai flight, Air India on Monday apologised and said it has initiated "corrective action internally".
