If the Mercedes-Benz SLK hard-top convertible wasn't already a stunner in the looks department, the German car maker has now given it a heart of a beast. The SLK 55 AMG has suddenly got, with a 5.5 litre AMG innard, the lung power to go from 0 to 100 km in just 4.6 seconds. And if you still aren't impressed by the AMG badge, its sporty body kit and new power, then the roar of the 5,461cc V8 engine when it switches on will certainly make you realise that your leonine machine is a monster in disguise. As you know, the AMG tag is all about unbridled horsepower that makes you chafe impatiently if you don't cross the red line on the speedometer. And of course, this is possible only because of the stratospheric price at which such indulgences come. The new SLK is true to its AMG genes and ticks the boxes on all these criteria.

One out of every five Mercedes-Benz sold in India is either an ‘A Class’ or ‘B Class’. The German luxury giant is confident of growing in double digits this year, on the back of a lowered entry price for the two new hatchbacks.
Priced at Rs 25 lakh-26 lakh and launched a year ago, more than 2,500 units of the A and B Class are running on Indian roads. A major chunk of the buyers are those who have never bought a luxury car before, followed by those who already have a Mercedes car in the family.

When my friends at Mercedes-Benz told me they were sending the 2014 S500 over for a review, the excitement was tantalising—the S-class is unofficially the ‘best car in the world’. But I admit I was a bit worried as well. I live in an apartment complex in East Delhi, and with the rapid rise in car ownership over the last few years, I was worried that I would spend hours parking such a luxury barge and then I would hate myself if I ended up scratching such a beauty. To my surprise, I was proved so wrong.
