Global Cloud Xchange launches Cloud X WAN

Reliance Communications (RCOM) and its subsidiary Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) on Wednesday launched ‘Make in India’ Cloud X WAN, a network platform designed to help overcome many of the challenges facing today’s global enterprise networks.

“In today’s market, it is evident that SD WAN (software-defined wide area network) is rapidly gaining momentum as it offers an innovative way to adapt traditional WANs to Cloud services,” said Bill Barney, CEO, RCOM (Enterprise) and GCX.

Reliance Communications (RCom) on Wednesday announced the introduction of "Next-Gen app-to-app calling in the country and worldwide". The offer launched by the company has been billed as 'Calling Ka Naya Tareeka' and in this introductory offer it is offering 300 minutes of app-to-app calling for Rs 39.

The company said that the app-to-app calling experience, which is not a novelty for Indian consumers, will be better on its LTE network in the 850 MHz band, and therefore, will provide unparalleled experience.

NEW DELHI: State Bank of India will refinance debt of Rs 28,000 crore that will be transferred to the entity emerging from merger of the wireless business of Reliance Communications and Aircel, expected to be announced next month, a person familiar with the matter said.

Under broad terms of refinancing, "maturity period of the loans will be 20 years as against the existing tenures of 4-5 years on both sides," the person said. The promoters of RCom and Aircel are set to announce a merger pact around the second week of August, having finalised all details to combine their wireless businesses, which would create a strong no. 4 telco.

The BSE Telecom index fell 2.20% or 28.71 points on Friday after a Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) report said six telecom service providers had under-reported revenues worth Rs 46,000 crore and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) saying it would issue demand notices for Rs 12,500 crore to these companies. The index closed the session at 1,275.33 points.

Reliance Communications (RCom) will provide 4G to its CDMA customers for Rs 93 per 10 gigabytes in a promotional offer for 28 days, after which the regular tariffs will come into effect.

The one-time CDMA to 4G LTE upgrade offer from RCom needs a recharge of Rs 93, Rs 95 or Rs 97, depending on the telecom circle.

Subscribers of Reliance Communications' CDMA devices, who have a 4G SIM, will now be able to access the service as the company had received the legal intercept and monitoring (LIM) approval from the department of telecom in 12 out of 22 circles.

The first 12 circles are Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Punjab, east and west Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

Reliance Communications (RCom) fared the worst in a call drop rate test conducted by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) in Hyderabad, showed the results issued by the latter.

Trai had earlier said almost all operators failed the benchmark in a test at Delhi; it was so in Hyderabad, too. And, RCom's call drop rates were the highest — 4.8 per cent for its second-generation technology (2G) service and 5.5 per cent for the CDMA service. The company has reportedly been in the process of shutting its CDMA business and shifting its subscribers to 2G, 3G and 4G networks.
