In a boost to its push for future technology products, the country’s patent office has granted a patent to Chennai-based two-wheeler major TVS Motor for its invention related to a charging system for electric vehicles (EVs). The Chennai patent office granted the patent on Tuesday, for a charging system which the company claims was more of a safety mechanism to prevent the vehicle from being started while plugged-in for charging.

Two-wheeler major TVS Motor expects sales of its Apache series of motorcycles to hit 500,000 units at the end of this fiscal. This would translate into a 25 per cent growth in volume sales over the previous year. The company launched its new Apache RTR 160 4v on Wednesday.

"This (premium motorcycle) industry is growing very fast. We are estimating to sell 500,000 units in the Apache series, which is a growth of around 25 per cent," said K N Radhakrishnan, president and chief executive officer, TVS Motor Company.

2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 is all set to be launched in India on 14 March. Only yesterday TVS Motor Company teased its new product with TVS Apache RTR INMRC race-spec bike. Now, we're expecting nice things from the RTR 160, one of the few motorcycles that delivered a racing appeal along with a comfortable everyday commute. So far what we know through spy images, of which there have been quite a few, the new Apache RTR 160 takes inspiration from the bigger Apache RTR 200 4V.

The new 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 will be launched in India on 14th March. The company has already started sending out invites for the launch event. Though the invite does not mention the exact name of the motorcycle, we believe that the upcoming bike will be the new RTR 160. At the launch of TVS Apache RR 310, the company had announced that the next launch under the Apache line up will be the updated Apache RTR 160.

TVS Motor Company launched its flagship motorcycle Apache RR 310 in India in December last year. The bike made its arrival holding a price tag of Rs 2.05 lakh (ex-showroom). With the launch of TVS Apache RR 310, the company aimed at selling 10,000 units of the motorcycle annually and the target did not seem over-enthusiastic or impossible. The latest data by SIAM reveals that TVS managed to sell 242 units of the motorcycle in the month of January 2018. This looks quite low compared to TVS' target that had set at the time of launch.

TVS Motor Company will launch its all-new 125cc scooter in India tomorrow. The scooter is rumoured to come as the production version of Graphite that was showcased for the first time as a concept model at Auto Expo 2014. The new TVS Graphite 125, as the name suggests, gets its power from a 125cc single cylinder, air-cooled engine mated to an automatic transmission system. The exact power and torque figures are unavailable at the moment. The new TVS Graphite 125 will come with sporty LED tail lamp as seen in the teaser video.

TVS Motor Co has reported a 16.3% growth in its net profit for the quarter ended December 31, 2017 to Rs 154.35 crore, compared with Rs 132.67 crore in the same quarter last fiscal, even as revenues have grown at a faster 23.5% (after adjusting for excise and GST) to Rs 3,685 crore. The lag in profit growth was mostly due to lower income and higher taxes. Tax expenses increased sharply by 51% to Rs 56.01 crore in Q3 FY18 from Rs 37.13 crore in the year-ago period.

Automotive electricals manufacturer Lucas TVS will launch traction motors designed for electric vehicles by next year in what the 55-year-old TVS Group company believes is a key de-risking strategy to align with the global transition towards electric vehicles.

The company will set up a trial production line dedicated to its EV journey inside one of its seven plants, with room to scale up, based on demand.

TVS Motor Company hit a new high of Rs 795, up 4% on the BSE in early morning trade, after the company registered 39% growth in sales at 256,909 units in the month of December 2017. It had sold 184,944 units in December 2016.

TVS Motor Company had registered a sales growth of 12% at 251,965 units in November 2017.

Two-wheeler major TVS Motor Company has entered into the super premium motorcycle by launching the TVS Apache RR 310- a 310 cc super-premium bike that the company has jointly developed with BMW Motorrad. The newly launched TVS Apache RR 310 will be introduced in the global market as well with the company eyeing sales to the tune of 10,000 units in its first year itself.

The new bike is priced at Rs 2.05 lakh (ex-showroom) with prices varying across states. TVS Motor's entry into the new segment comes four years after a tie-up agreement between the Indian motorcycle major and Germany's BMW Motorrad.
