Avocent Corporation company makes analog and digital KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switching systems used to manage multiple servers. Its LongView extension products let computer users locate their mouse, monitor, keyboard, and other peripherals up to 500 feet away from their CPU. The company also provides systems management software through its LANDesk division. Avocent's key clients have included manufacturers such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM, as well as IT product distributors such as Ingram Micro and Tech Data. Emerson Electric bought the company in late 2009 for about $1.2 billion in cash. Avocent tries to give network administrators what they really need -- the ability to be in multiple places at once.
