Retail farm-supply and grain-marketing cooperative GROWMARK can mark its growth by the grain. A member-owed agricultural co-op, GROWMARK serves farmers in the midwestern US and Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1980, it has more than 250,000 members. Under the FAST STOP name, the co-op runs more than 300 fuel stations and convenience stores in the Midwest. Its Seedway subsidiary sells commercial vegetable seed and farm seed for turf, and grains including alfalfa, corn, wheat, and soybeans. GROWMARK also offers fertilizer, seeds, ethanol, biodiesel, and farm financing. Its MID-CO COMMODITIES subsidiary trades grain and offers advice regarding futures and options.

Harris Moran Seed Company, a unit of French seed giant cooperative Groupe Limagrain, serves up an array of vegetable seeds for markets in about 65 countries. The company's seeds are destined for fresh-food and processed-food end uses. With operations in the US and Mexico, the company researches, breeds, and wholesales seeds for such mom-pleasers as beans, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, corn, lettuce, melons, peppers, pumpkins, squash, and tomatoes. Harris Moran, which was acquired by Limagrain in 1996, traces its roots back more than 140 years. In 2010 the company acquired Mesa Maize, a sweet corn company in Olathe, Colorado.

From seed veggies hanging on the vine, Hartung Brothers does it all. The agribusiness company produces seed corn and vegetable crops (cucumbers, peas, snap beans, sweet corn, beets, greens, and carrots) at farms in Texas, Illinois, Ohio, Oregon, and Wisconsin. Hartung Brothers subsidiary H&N Logistics offers vegetable, fertilizer, and machinery transportation using its fleet of 100 trucks. Twin brothers Don and Dan Hartung (president and vice president), formed the company in 1975 while they were still in high school. In 2009 the company sold its fertilizer division to The Andersons.

Heartland Co-op offers agricultural products and services for its central Iowa member/farmers. The cooperative operates 50 grain elevators and service centers. Heatland offers agronomy products and services, such as seed treatments and alfalfa fertilization; grain drying, storage, and merchandising; petroleum products for farm vehicles and home heating; livestock and pet feed; and personal and crop credit and financing. Headquartered in West Des Moines, Heartland was formed in 1987 when cooperatives in Dallas Center, Minburn and Panora merged. There have been some 13 subsequent mergers that have seen Heartland grow to become a 4,500-member agricultural cooperative.
