AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine has shown limited efficacy against mild disease caused by the variant first identified in South Africa, according to early data in a small phase trial.

Efficacy against severe Covid-19 cases, hospitalisation and deaths hasn’t yet been determined, given that subjects were predominantly young healthy adults, a spokesperson for AstraZeneca said in a statement.

Shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) slipped 9 per cent to Rs 39.55 on the BSE in Monday's intra-day trade, in an otherwise strong market, after the company reported a loss of Rs 231 crore in the December quarter (Q3FY21) due to poor operational performance. At least 14 people have been killed and over 150 are feared missing, after a glacier burst in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Sunday. The outburst of the glacier increased the water level in the Alaknanda river system which in turn washed away hydroelectric stations and several small bridges.
