Though the most preferred and sought after cooking fuel used in around 150 million Indian household which covers nearly half the population of the country, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a hazardous fuel unless used safely. Therefore, the Indian LPG Industry comprising of the three PSU Oil majors i.e, IndianOil Corporation Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd & Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd took a unique initiative during the late 80’s to have a unified approach for ensuring the quality of LPG Equipment used by consumers and for advancement of technologies used at LPG Bottling Plants.LERC was thus conceptualized by the Three Oil Majors of India and was set up at Bangalore in the year 1990 with a stake holding in the ratio of 50:25:25 respectively. LERC is also manned directly by these oil companies by personnel deployment on deputation.LERC is a unique organization in the way that, it is not only a collaborative joint venture by the three Fortune 500 oil sector companies which do not have a parallel anywhere in the world, but also is the only entity in India fully dedicated to R&D efforts in the LPG business stream.LERC has now completed 24 years of dedicated service to the LPG Industry in India benefitting their multicore LPG consumers.
