Nearly 50,000 fresh COVID-19 cases push India's tally to 12.87 lakh

India has yet again witnessed its highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with 49,310 cases reported in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
With these fresh cases, India's coronavirus cases tally has gone up to 12,87,945, out of which there are 4,40,135 active cases and 8,17,209 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.
The death toll has gone up to 30,601 with 740 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,47,502 cases reported until Thursday.
While Tamil Nadu has a tally of 1,92,964 cases and 3,232 deaths due to COVID-19, Delhi has reported a total of 1,27,364 cases and 3,745 deaths due to the virus.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that 1,54,28,170 samples have been tested for COVID-19 till July 22, of these 3,52,801 samples were tested on July 23.

In a significant step towards global healthcare innovation, the World Health Organization (WHO) has released a technical brief titled "Mapping the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Traditional Medicine", acknowledging India's pioneering efforts in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) with traditional medicine systems, particularly Ayush systems.
The WHO release follows India's proposal on the subject, leading to the development of WHO's first-ever roadmap for applying AI in traditional medicine, the Ayush Ministry said in a release.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Saturday hailed the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) for conducting a "transparent and professional" investigation into the Air India flight AI171 crash.
The Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, resulting in the deaths of 260 individuals, including 229 passengers, 12 crew members, and 19 people on the ground.

Apple supplier Foxconn Technology Group has begun importing key components from China to India for the assembly of the upcoming iPhone 17, The Economic Times reported. These imports, which include essential parts like display assemblies, cover glass, mechanical housings, and integrated rear camera modules, are likely intended for trial production, as their volume is significantly smaller compared to shipments for older models, the news report said.
