Central Organisation for Railway Electrification
IRCOT was found in 1986. History of IRCOT intervened with Freight Operation and Information work (FOIS). The work of FOIS was sanctioned in works Programme 1983-84 at a cost of Rs.520 crores based on a pilot project report. The steering-committee of secretaries set up to review and monitor the OIS project decided that railways would own and install their own Telecom Network for their future use and a communication Advisory Committee was formed. In May, 1983, it was decided that the planning for integrated telecommunication network would be done centrally and a foreign consultant would be engaged.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL)
The Government of Tamil Nadu created a Special Purpose Vehicle for implementing the Chennai Metro Rail Project. The purpose of CMRL is providing the people of Chennai with a fast, reliable, convenient, efficient, modern and economical mode of public transport, which is properly integrated with other forms of public and private transport including buses, sub-urban trains and MRTS. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) relating to the Chennai Metro Rail Project was prepared and submitted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) who have successfully designed and implemented the Delhi Metro Rail Project.

Metro Railway, Kolkata

Palace On Wheels
A joint venture of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways, Palace on Wheels, India's first tourist train, started rolling from the year 1982. The elegant coaches of this unique train were conceived from the original and personal railway coaches of the erstwhile rulers of the princely states of Rajputana and Gujarat, the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India, used on bridal journeys, hunting parties and occasions of state visits.

Western Railway
Western Railway in its present form came into existence on 5th November, 1951 by the merger of its forerunner, the erstwhile Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway (BB&CI), with other State Railways viz, Saurashtra, Rajputana and Jaipur. The BB&CI Railway was itself inaugurated in 1855, starting with the construction of a 29 mile broad gauge track from Ankleshwar to Utran in Gujarat state on the West Coast. In 1864, the railway was extended up to Mumbai.
