("Empire Iron") is a wholly owned subsidiary of Empire Industries Ltd ("Empire"). Empire Iron was founded in 1958, incorporated in Manitoba in 1964 and moved to 1001 Jarvis Avenue, Winnipeg to accommodate its increasing volume of sales. Empire Iron purchased a facility on 16 acres of land west of Edmonton and started providing steel fabrication and installation services in the Alberta market in 1979. Empire Iron opened a third steel fabrication and installation operation in Delta B.C. in 1983. Empire Iron commenced EIW Construction Services in Winnipeg in 1988 and has been providing industrial, multi-trade construction services ever since. Empire Industries Ltd. acquired George Third & Son Ltd. on August 31, 2006 for $9.4 million. George Third & Son is a leading steel fabricator and erector in British Columbia. The firm was started in 1910 and significantly strengthens Empire's competitive position in western Canada. As part of the transaction, Brett and Rob Third took a sigificant equity stake in Empire Industries Ltd. Empire bought 49% of Sorge's Welding Ltd. in Ft. McMurray, Alberta on December 31, 2006. Empire invested $2.1 million into creating one of the leading Aboriginal controlled, field installation and welding maintenance service providers in the Wood Buffalo Region.
