These surface finish testers are designed with a small footprint, may be hand carried to shop floor, for direct measurements of components during manufacturing. The detector unit being detachable can be directly used inside the cylinder block like components for a quick check of surface finish. Mounting the unit on a height gauge of a stand can check smaller components. Altogether ten data ca be stored in the instruments making them useful tools for shop floor inspection. Cut off can be selected from 0.08 mm to 2.5 mm and measuring length can be selected from 0.4 mm to 12.5 mm. The units can give 18 parameters of roughness, viz, Ra, Rz, Rsm, Rq, Rt, and also can give the bearing area curve parameters, like Rk, Rpk, Vo, K Mr1 and Mr2 useful for honed and super finished components. Data storage can be achieved by transferring data to excel package or advanced analysis is possible by connecting the TIMS roughness software package. The units can pertain to all the International standards, like JIS/ISO/DIN/ASME and CNOMO for versatility. They come with two-roughness specimen for calibration and stylus check.
