Kerala Chemicals & Proteins one of the most successful Indo-Japanese Industrial Ventures, was incorporated in 1975 . The company was promoted by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Limited jointly with Nitta Gelatine Inc. Japan and Mitsubhishi Corporation Japan. The Managing Director is appointed by KSIDC and a whole time director by Nitta.

The main purpose of the company at the time of incorporation was to manufacture ossein and products of ossein, gelatine and glue and their components for domestic commercial, industrial purpose etc. The company got technological support for manufacturing compound glue at its plant commissioned in 1987. Today KCPL is one of the Kerala's leading chemical exports company, manufacturing Ossein, Gelatin, Di Calcium Phosphate and compound glue. The company's exceptional performance in the export sector has also earned it a registered Export House status.

The company is India's only producer of compound Gelatin. Bamini Proteins Limited, wholly owned subsidiary of KCPL, manufactures Ossein and Di Calcium Phosphate (DCP). The company making steady growth in the past two decades has a vast global clientele. The company's products finds application in food and chemical industry.
