So we asked ourselves, ¿What would it take to make the ultimate field knife?¿ It would have to be a universally functional design that was suitable for a variety of tasks including hunting and fishing, camping chores, and food preparation. It would have to be made from a material that was stain resistant, held a superior edge, and required less frequent sharpening. It would have to be comfortable to use in wet and cold conditions, with or without gloves. It would also need a secure carry system. And we answered that question with the SOG X-42 Field Knife. It's constructed from exotic BG-42 stainless steel, raved about by custom knife makers. BG-42 is extremely tough, hard, durable, and takes an incredible edge. ¿When I first used BG-42, I could almost immediately tell the difference in performance,¿ says Spencer Frazer, Chief Designer. Everything about the X-42 Field Knife speaks of function. The drop point, flat ground blade is perfectly balanced. The aggressive thumb ridges are poised for downward pressure. The full tang handle is a sandwich of Zytel, glass reinforced slabs and steel. The finger grips provide for positive retention with a secure feel and the black leather sheath is designed for a friction fit.
