Powerful vacuums don't have to weigh a ton, and the Eureka Boss Lite upright is an excellent example. At 12 amps and just 13 pounds, it's a good combination of strong suction and lightweight structure. The Boss Lite uses a bag for dirt collection and includes standard filtration to reduce particulates in the atmosphere of your home or office. It features seven different carpet heights--controlled with a front dial--and a 13-inch cleaning path for efficient floor coverage. The machine also comes with a built-in hose and onboard tools, including an extension wand, a crevice tool, and a combination attachment for dusting and upholstery. It's neither the most sophisticated nor the most accessorized vacuum on the market, but it covers basic jobs with ease and isn't a strain to pick up. The carrying handle and power-cord hooks come in handy, as does the foot-control construction on the power switch and the handle release. Like many other Eureka vacuums, this model also features built-in motor fan protection. --Emily Bedard
