Sony's family of DDS tape drives delivers cost effective solutions for backing up and archiving large amounts of data in small to mid-sized computer systems, workstations and small networks. This particular model, the SDT-9000/PB Internal Tape Drive, offers a massive 24 GB capacity and a fast 2.4 MB per second sustained data transfer rate (with 2:1 data compression). The unit is read and write compatible with all DDS-2 and DDS-1 tape formats, and features Sony's Super Head Cleaner mechanism to lessen the need for periodic cleaning and a Hyper Metal Head to reduce error rates by up to 10 times over conventional ferrite MIG heads.
