It even performs top-of-the-line progressive video scanning for seamless, flicker-free images when viewing on high-definition or HD-ready TVs. Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVP-NS755V stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs through Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive de-interlacer (scanning) with 3:2 pulldown processing. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television, and two sets of each video output allow use in multiple rooms.
SACD music releases provide super high-fidelity multichannel and/or stereo sound (depending on the disc). Because the SACD signal is too high-resolution for the digital-to-analog converters in current surround receivers (and as an anti-piracy measure), the DVP-NS755V performs its own decoding of SACD signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, SACD audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate multichannel SACD releases.
Likewise, you'll want an analog connection for enjoying stereo SACD programs--but if you're wiring for multichannel, be sure to have the bases covered. Built-in SACD bass management helps you tailor the output level of the ".1" LFE (low-frequency effects) channel to your system, as an appropriate level may differ from the output level appropriate for the Dolby Digital and DTS surround mixes found on DVD-Video discs.
A set of stereo and a set of multichannel analog-audio outputs route audio from SACDs as well as from Dolby Digital- and DTS-encoded DVDs to a compatible audio/video receiver. If you're not planning to use the SACD capability, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can also be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for a simpler connection to a compatible AV receiver (but be aware that digital-audio interconnects are not supplied).
If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: Sony's TV Virtual Surround (with four surround modes) simulates surround sound through two speakers--even the stereo speakers on a TV.
Precision Drive 2 provides a mechanism for reading DVDs that are in less than perfect condition, eliminating errors in playback due to imperfect, scratched, or warped discs. DVD resume memory kicks in whenever you stop a DVD. Later, when you come back to it, the player will pick up right where you left off before. The player holds resume points for up to 40 discs.
Other playback options include 10-second instant replay, quick set-up, DVD/CD Text, block noise reduction, a digital video enhancer, custom parental control memory for 40 discs, Advanced SmoothScan and SmoothSlow Modes, and multi-disc resume (for up to 40 discs).
