Description |
India's first commercial nuclear power plant ,Tarapur Atomic Power Station(TAPS), is also Asia's first and one of the longest serving nuclear power plants in the world.The plant was supplied by the General Electric Company of USA on a turnkey basis and went into commercial operation in 1969.TAPS has two units of 160 MWe each (present capacity) and has produced over 50300 MUs during the last 28 years.TAPS provided the Indian scientists and engineers an early lead, and vita experience to operate a nuclear power plant in local grid conditions.Today, at 82 paise per unit ,nuclear power produced by TAPS still remains the most economic source of electricity |
