	Description	The creditability of horticulture has been well established in improving productivity of land, generating employment's, improving economic conditions of the farmers and entrepreneurs, enhancing exports and above all providing nutritional security to the people. The sector, which includes fruits vegetables, root and tuber crops, mushroom, floriculture, medical and aromatic plants, cashewnut, plantation crops including coconut and oil palm has established its creditability. Focussed attention to horticulture was given only during Eighth Plan although tune was set in VII Plan after achieving self-sufficiency in food grains. Contribution of Horticulture to GDP of agriculture is estimated to be more than 24.5 from less than 8 percent of cultivated area.
